Juniperus × pfitzeriana 'Old Gold' is a popular evergreen shrub known for its vibrant golden-yellow foliage and broad, spreading habit. A cultivar of the Pfitzer juniper group, it typically grows 60–100 cm tall and spreads up to 1.5–2 meters wide, forming a neat, mounding shape.
Its soft, scale-like foliage emerges bright golden-yellow in spring, maturing to a rich gold with bronze undertones in winter, providing excellent year-round interest. Unlike some golden conifers, ‘Old Gold’ retains its color well even in colder months without fading.
This variety is excellent for mass plantings, borders, rock gardens, foundation plantings, or as a contrast against darker evergreens. It prefers full sun for best color, tolerates a wide range of soils (as long as well-drained), and is very drought- and pollution-tolerant once established.
Low maintenance and deer-resistant, ‘Old Gold’ requires little pruning and is a durable choice for gardeners seeking a splash of lasting golden color in the landscape.
